Mary Wojcicki, Lucy, and Hennessy

Memphis_Dog_Training_My_Pet_ProI wholeheartedly recommend Donna Malone for dog behavior counseling and training. Donna taught me how to better understand my four-legged children! That combined with positive training created a stronger bond between me and my dogs that has led to a happier, calmer home. She is my trusted resource when looking for answers to my behavior questions, and in our household, the biggest problem was not one that could be solved easily.

We have two female and two male dogs in our home. I originally contacted Donna in March 2014 for help with my two female dogs, Lucy and Hennessy, who after two years of getting along (really just tolerating one another), had begun to fight each other. After several fights over six months, I started searching for a dog behaviorist. I spoke with several who had little hope for correcting the problem, but were willing to try. It didn’t make sense to me to hire someone that didn’t even believe changing their behavior was possible, so I called a behaviorist in another city that I had hired for my daughter’s dog when she was away at college. Donna was one of the two she recommended based on credentials. After speaking with Donna one time, I knew that with her experience, knowledge and compassion, she was the expert I had been searching for. She made a visit to our home, spent time discussing the interactions of all of our dogs, and immediately taught my husband and me how to incorporate positive training to change behavior. Our walks became more enjoyable, and manners improved. We came to learn that as much as we loved our dogs and thought they loved us, we really weren’t bonded with them. Donna’s positive training techniques quickly created an undeniable bond that has been the foundation of all the success that followed.

We are still working on correcting the behavior between Lucy and Hennessy. Although life seems to keep distracting us from the most important exercise we need to incorporate to address it, we have made progress, and I know when we’re ready to begin that important exercise, Donna will be there to guide us through it. She is always attentive to my phone calls and emails, and she responds with great insight and suggestions backed by her extensive knowledge. In my experience, this ongoing support makes her unique and invaluable.

I lost my boy T-Bone after 17 years of love and devotion. We had that once in a life time bond between human and dog. When he died, I sworn I would never have another dog again. I didn’t want to go through the pain again.

A month to the day of his passing, I found a dog lying against my fence. He was in horrible shame, fresh scars around his neck and hind legs. When he stood up I could see he had been starved, he was nothing but skin stretched over bones. I brought him back to the house and noticed he was limping. I fed him a small amount of food every half hour. I took him to the vet the next morning only to find out his pelvis and leg had been broken and healed and was full of infection.

Of course I gave him the best food and would bring him toys every time I came home. He started becoming demanding and trying to attack everybody, including me. I talked to a rescue and a vet friend and asked what I could do. Both suggested that I have him put down. The thought of that just broke my heart and I said “never.” “He was a gift from T-Bone and God and deserved a good loving life.”

One day, while at the vet’s clinic, I asked if anyone could recommend a good trainer. One of the techs suggested Donna Malone. She said that Donna was an expert with behavioral problems. I called Donna and she suggested I bring Sugar Ray to one of her classes. I explained that he was too aggressive for me to do that.

I made an appointment for her to come to my house for a session. When she got there, I had to hold him back with all of my strength to keep him from attacking her. She said that there was a possibility that he may not be able to be trained.

She came to my house once a week for several weeks and each week gave me instructions to work with him every day. At first I thought this isn’t going to work, she didn’t seem to be doing anything while she was there other than tell me what I needed to do. I did follow her instructions but didn’t see immediate results. Then one day it was like it clicked with him, he would look at me for commands and seemed to enjoy learning something new. She then suggested teaching him tricks, which he picked up immediately. I continued to work with him and he continued to improve. Donna was always available if I had any questions.

The incredible news is that he kept improving and now he is a therapy dog! He loves his new job and looks forward to going to the nursing home to see his patients. This is the dog who seemed to hate people and now loves for people to pet him and talk to him.

To Whom It May Concern,

OliverI would just like to say that when it comes to my dog, Oliver, the best thing I have done for him and my entire family is to hire Donna Malone. She came to our home and met with Oliver and I to get to know us. There was no way to assess him without knowing how we treat his problems and what may trigger them. As for Oliver, he had several. Separation Anxiety was the worst for me. He could not be out of my sight for even a second. He would not eat or drink his water unless I could be in his sight while doing so. Taking him outside to relieve himself was a nightmare in the winter as I had to be with him every moment. I have a huge backyard that is usually a dog’s dream, but for Oliver it was a nightmare unless I was right by his side. No playing at all. He was too concerned with my leaving him out there. And leaving my house at all was an awful experience for both of us as his constant panic scared me as well.

He also had Resource Guarding, with me being the resource. No one could get near me, not even my husband, without him growling or even snapping at them. He had many other little quirks that most would say aren’t normal for a dog. Enter Donna Malone. With the knowledge she gave us, our lives have turned around. We did have to put him on medication, but with the recommendations she gave our vet, we have all worked together to get just the right ones and dosages.

I regard Donna with the utmost respect and highly recommend her to anyone that needs help with their dog. She is worth every penny we paid.

Thank you so much,

Brenda Gass

To whom it may concern:

Over the past year, we have taken several Shelties in our rescue program to classes taught by Donna Malone. With her keen insight and vast experience, she has helped us work through several behavioral issues that we were having with rescued Shelties. In addition to addressing specific issues, attending the basic obedience classes for socialization has helped our rescue dogs immensely. Donna understands the ‘baggage’ that some rescued dogs bring with them and has the knowledge to address these issues,

We here at Fresh Start Sheltie Rescue consider Donna Malone a very valuable asset to the community. We have had many positive experiences with her and will continue to use her services to help our Shelties in their journey to find their forever homes. We do not hesitate to recommend her to anyone needing help with canine behavior issues or basic training,

To Whom It May Concern:

I contacted Donna Malone in Jan of 2014. I was referred to her by a local rescue group. My little girl had some pretty severe anxiety and it had escalated up to shaking. That’s when I knew I needed help.

Donna came to my home and spent several hours, gave me a full assessment and we started to work. Little did I know after having dogs my entire life, I didn’t know much at all about dog behavior. As they say in the dog training world, you train the owner , not the dog. That was the case with us. When I was shown the correct manner of how to do things, my little girl just fell right into place.

We worked with her anxiety over the course of several months and some things were hard to do, but Donna will always give you the best advice whether you agree or want to admit it. She was always there for us, just a phone call away no matter what time of the day it was. She gave me several online books to study and would send me anything she felt I needed at the time. I remember one of the hardest things for me to do was to have her long hair cut off (she was a cocker) in order to wear the anxiety shirt (LOL) but once I did, I actually loved it and the shirt helped Grace a great deal.
She is a very thorough trainer and behaviorist and will go the extra mile to help to get you & your dog to where you need/want to be.

I have since lost my little girl to a sudden, tragic accident, but when I get better, I know in my heart, there will be another dog and one of the first people I will call will be Donna. Getting a new dog/pup is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. Or the help you may need with that dog. Getting a dog is a lifetime commitment and each one is different, so you do the necessary work to turn that little baby into a well behaved, happy, loving companion. One of the most important things I learned is dogs need structure and mine needed it big-time, it gives them security. Dogs are pack animals and you must establish yourself as the leader. That actually makes them very happy and they feel secure.
I highly recommend Donna as a trainer and a behaviorist. I think you will be very pleased with the end result.

Amy Clark & Chunk the Pit Bull

Amy Clark & Chunk the Pit Bull

Dear New Dog Owner,

After bringing a very large 2 year old pitbull named Chunk into our home, it became very evident that Chunk needed to learn some “manners”. He often jumped on visitors that entered our home and with Chunk weighing in at a whopping 100lbs, this could not continue so I set out on a quest to find someone to train him. Chunk is my brother’s (Jason) dog, so I wanted to buy a training package for Jason for his birthday. After a lot of research, I decided that I wanted Chunk to have a more personal experience with in-home training. During that research, I also found Donna Malone with My Pet Pro. I had spoken with several other trainers and as soon as I spoke to Donna, I knew that she was the trainer for us.

We got so much more than we ever expected from Donna. She was very patient working with my Jason and Chunk. She did a weekly visit to work with them in person and gave them homework to complete before the next visit. Chunk learned all the basic obedience commands and also learned about 6 tricks. Donna uses positive reinforcement clicker training and it is extremely good at what she does.

The thing that really stands out to me about Donna is that she absolutely truly loves the dogs and she has a soft spot for pitbulls which is refreshing in a world that continuously scrutinizes this wonderful breed. Chunk loved her too. Training was sometimes disrupted because Chunk wanted to give Donna kisses…and kisses….and more kisses. Donna really understands the way dogs think, and I have often referred to her as the Memphis Dog Whisperer. While Chunk did not have any behavior issues to correct, Donna does also specialize in behavior modification.

The true differentiator with Donna from other trainers I spoke with is that she is committed to you for life. She has been a constant consultant for Jason and Chunk with no additional fees. Jason has reached out to her often to ask how he could teach Chunk to do other tricks (he recently learned to wave bye) and Donna is always willing to coach him and help him with whatever he needs….ALL INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL TRAINING PRICE!!!!

If you need a trainer for your dog, stop looking and go with the best….Donna Malone with My Pet Pro.

Sincerely,
Amy Clark

Donna Malone helped me after 2 other trainers gave up on my dog Axel. On our first meeting, she taught him to go get in his bed simply by staring at it and not saying a word. The entire process took less than half an hour. If I hadn’t been sitting in the room I never would have believed it. She is amazing and has a honest love for dogs that you can feel just by being in the room with her.

Donna invests much time and energy in trying to understand each dog and each case thoroughly. She had me complete loads of paperwork explaining my situation. She also took the time to watch multiple videos multiple times so she could analyze every bit of Axel’s behavior. She seems to understand dogs better than I understand people.

Donna’s help doesn’t end when training sessions are over. She is always accessible through calls or texts. She graciously talks me though all situations. She also frequently checks in and asks for progress reports. I truly feel that Donna is invested in Axel for the rest of his life. I wholeheartedly believe that Donna Malone is the best advocate and trainer any dog could ever have.

Dear Donna,

I am writing you with many thanks and an abundance of gratitude.  Your guidance and expert training helped take “Satchmo” and myself to our greatest win yet.  At the age of 19 months, he was awarded Winners Dog for a five-point goblet win.  He then was awarded Best of Winners over 109 Cairn Terrier Club of American National Specialty in conjunction with the Montgomery County All Terrier National in Pennsylvania on October 7, 2007.  I am most sure that we would not have achieved this fabulous win without your five training classes one month before the nationals.  I had recently attended the George Alston Seminar but, learned more from you in one hour than during his entire seminar.  In addition, the sweepstakes judge for our Regional Specialty in Detroit in February of this year commented, “That is not the same dog I saw in Detroit.”  I am most impressed by your pursuant attitude that we, our four-legged friend and owner, are a team.  You assured me that he cares about making me happy and that I needed to be as determined to find out what makes him happy.  Your stressed play and reward.  You incorporated play into practice and made use of this need as a tool for success.

We are so fortunate to have a fellow Memphian that has such an exceptional gift.  You help owners to be better communicators with our canine companions.  Your approach helped me realize that along with communication, positive reinforcement and training that these marvelous companions can achieve goals beyond our dreams.

With much appreciation and respect,

Dear Donna:

I am having great fun with Molly as she sits, stands, crawls and gives me high fives. Training with treats has surely brought good results with her obedience training. Molly has caught on quickly, and is eager to follow mine and Lily’s instructions. We are now working on roll over and playing dead.

I wish I had known you when I took my precious Jack Russell (Daisy) through obedience training. Without treats, she did learn to sit, stay, come and heel, but I’m sure with treats she would have been eager to learn more.

I will be very happy to refer you to any acquaintances of mine with pets in need of obedience training. Lily and I were very pleased with your method and kind way of training.

Sincerely,

Dear Donna,

Dog Obedience Training MemphisThank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always knew that I had a lovely girl but we were getting nowhere in the show ring. After coming to you for lessons, you worked with us and always seemed to know just what we needed to work on to make both my dog and me be the best we could be. AND IT HAS PAYED OFF. Evie won the Bred by class, then went on to win the Open Bitch class, then competed in the Best of Breed class and won Best of Winners. Not only did she win all of that on Saturday but won the same thing on Sunday under a different judge. She received two five point majors and became a Champion on Sunday. She did this at the Cairn Terrier Specialty of Greater Detroit.

You were like a detective–watching the dog and the handler to see just what we could do to correct some things, change other things, and introduce some new things to put us in the “winning” mode. I am so grateful for you and will always remember what a wonderful feeling it is to win and win big. And when I called you to tell you the good news, you shared my joy as if she was yours. Actually, you were with me in Michigan with every step I took.

Thanks again for everything,

Reference Letter from Tammy Wright, D.V.M., at Shelby Center for Animals

To Whom It May Concern:

As a veterinarian, I have been familiar with Donna Malone’s work regarding responsible pet ownership and training for several years. When in the past I was consulting for behavior problems in pets, I would often ask clients to contact Ms. Malone for basic information, obedience and handout information. In more recent years as my medical practice and family commitments have crowded out time for consulting, more and more clients have been diverted to Ms. Malone for advisement. Clients always gave positive reports for the time and information she provided.

Since Ms. Malone has expanded her services to more thorough counseling. I have had opportunities to send her clients with pet behavior issues.

Her resources have appeared to be very reliable and information provided thorough. She has taken care to explain a prognosis when needed.

The area of behavior counseling is a need in our community. Since it is an area requiring professionalism, understanding, guidance, and compassion, it is my hope and belief that Ms. Malone will do all she can to provide this type of quality service pet and families deserve.

Sincerely,

I am writing this recommendation to share with you the positive experiences I have had with Donna Malone of My Pet Pro, Memphis, Tennessee.

I began working with Ms. Malone in the Summer of 2001. She is always readily available. She returns calls and emails promptly, providing effective information that I can put to immediate use. Ms. Malone has helped me to build on my knowledge and understanding of dog behavior and has sparked my interest in researching and reading about dog behavior. In the past few years, I have contacted trainers and behaviorists in various parts of the country and in Canada, trying to find the «best of the best.” After consulting with other experts, I am very pleased to say that Ms. Malone is the best I have found. She stresses positive reinforcement and respect of each individual dog and his/her needs. I am very impressed that Ms. Malone not only understands” dogs, she also “loves” them as well.

I get calls and emails on a regular basis from people asking for help with their dogs and I do not hesitate to refer them to Ms. Malone. Those who have called with a follow-up report were very pleased with her work.

Should you select Ms. Malone as your behavioral counselor / trainer, I am confident you will be pleased. She has definitely been a key player in the success of my rescue efforts.
